Trade Bel–20


This is the list of the 20 most capitalised and liquid Belgium stocks that are traded on the Brussels Stock Exchange. It is the benchmark stock index of Euronext Brussels, and in general, the index consists of a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 companies traded at the Brussels Stock Exchange. Since 20 June 2011, the BEL-20 has contained 20 listing. There is an annual review, based on the closing prices at the end of the calendar year, and these changes come into effect on the first trading day of every March.

There are several criteria that the companies much meet to feature on the index. They must be a “representative of the Belgian equity market”, and have at least 15% of its shares must be considered free float to qualify for the index. The minimum requirement for an existing constituent to remain in the index is a market cap of 200000 times the index value. At the annual review the weights of the companies in the index are capped at 15%, but range freely with share price consequently. The BEL-20 is a market value-weighted index. The index was developed with a base value of 1000 as of 1st January 1991.
