It serves power generation, industrial, government and other customers worldwide with products and services related to energy production, distribution and management.

General Electric provides its customers with complete solutions to meet their needs through a complete range of aftermarket services, including upgrades, long-term maintenance service agreements, repairs, equipment installation, monitoring and diagnostics, asset management and performance optimisation tools, remote performance testing and Dry Low NOx (DNL) tuning.

GE was ranked among the Fortune 500 as the 6th largest firm in the US in 2011, and by gross revenue it was the 14th most profitable. However, now the company is listed as the 3rd largest in the world among the Forbes Global 2000. It held a 49% interest in a media company that includes the NBC Universal Businesses. In 1896, GE was one of the original 12 companies that were listed on the newly formed Dow Jones Industria Average, and is one of the only company still to be listed today.

In 2007, GE raised the annual revenue target from $20billion in 2010 to $25billion following positive market response to its new product lines. In 2010, GE raised its investment by adding $10 billion into Ecomagination in five years.
