The Intel corporation works closely with Microsoft and designs and builds microprocessors for computers. The development of SRAM and DRAM represented most the business until 1981 when they started expanding. Their primary locations are in the Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and Japan. On top of microprocessors and display and storage devices, they also provide mobile phone components, and mobile phone platforms, such as Bluetooth wireless technology and GPS receivers, software solutions and interoperability tests. The company markets its products primarily to original equipment manufacturers, original design manufacturers, and industrial and communications equipment manufacturers in the computing and communications industries.

The corporation was founded in 1968, and is based in Santa Clara, California. In late 2011, it acquired Wireless Solutions business of Infineon Technologies AG. In February 2011, it acquired McAfee Inc, and in August of that year, they formed a wholly owned subsidiary, Intel Federal LLC; however, at the end of that year, it sold the remaining interest in Micron. In Feb 2012, QLogic Corp sold the product lines and assets associated with it InfiniBand business to the company, and in May 2012, Cray Inc. completed the sale of the interconnect hardware development programme and related intellectual property in the company. In Sep 2012, InterDigital Inc sold 1700 oatent and patent applications to the company.

The corporation recently introduced a 3-D transistor, designed to improve performance and energy efficiency. They have now begun mass producing this transistor, called the Tri-Gate, with their 22nm process, which is currently used in their 3rd generation core processors initially released on April 29th 2012.
